Why aren't Third Party Video Game developers pushing the Wii to it's Limits?
I'm really getting tired of developers not taking advantage of the Wii. They keep saying, "Oh it's because the Wii is not considerd Next-Gen". (WTF 0_o) They haven't even tried to put games like Gears or Lost Planet, I quote, "LIKE, GEARS or Lost Planet". Running on the Wii System. After all the Wii is the Top Selling Video Game Sytem. They will make big bucks.

- I guess it's partially because of the demographics of the Wii. It's targeted more at less hard core gamers. But that's just bull. You can always change a target audience. After playing Zelda and Mario Galaxy on it, I know the Wii could run Assassins creed just as well as the 360. (and i say AC because Ubisoft put it one the cell phone before the Wii, which is downright insulting). The developers need to suck up whatever's bugging them and just make a good wii game.
- Part of the problem is that Nintendo have quite strict internal rules dictating what they are willing to allow on their console - they intended it to be more of a family-friendly affair. EDIT: just to respond to Elle: Unfortunately, Nintendo currently DOES still operate a policy of not allowing more mature games on the system. Look at all the issues Wii users have had with voice chat, to name only one example. Nintendo continually tie themselves in knots over whether they should allow people who play their games to talk to one another over wi-fi. The one and only reason for this, is that they have very strict internal regulation, much more so than Sony or Microsoft. As far as voice chat is concerned, they are worried that they'll be allowing kids to come into contact with inappropriate language, content etc. This is why, when Manhunt 2 was originally slated to be an AO-rated game, Nintendo immediately stated that the game would not be appearing on their system. This is because they have a SELF-IMPOSED policy of not allowing AO rated games on their console. There are plenty of games which have fallen foul of Nintendo's internal policies over the years, and developers are well aware of this - hence many of them simply don't like dealing with Nintendo. They chose the name "Wii" to emphasise the fact that the console is meant to be played by a group of people all playing together. By extension, they were clearly marketing the console as a family machine from the very beginning. To suggest that they no longer aim for the family market is naive at best. But like I say, things are (gradually) changing on that front, because they have realised that even if you sell a billion consoles to families, you may only sell a billion games. Sell a billion consoles to guys in their twenties, and you'll sell 10 billion games.
- The Wii can't handle it. Its graphically inferior to 360 and PS3. You get what you pay for and what you got was a Gamecube with a motion sensing controller. Actually I think the Gamecube had better graphics than the Wii does now. So doesn't PS2 and original Xbox. The Wii is a gimmick, thats all. If it cost $400 like PS3 and Xbox 360, no one would buy it. The Wii is not HD or anything close to next gen.
- Although, yes the graphics could not be run and the game would be cut in half (in gears of war especially), it could be done, just tone down the graphics... alot Now gears of war itself would be impossible because they have a contract to make it a console exclusive, but i get ur drift. I think the reason is that nintendo is the main developer, the only huge third party game i can think of is GH3 and that doesn't count for this question. when a third party creates a game for nintendo, nintendo tries to steal all or most of the rights to the game. this scares away many third party developers. And when you think about it, the people generally who would be into those "gamer" games would just get a ps3 or 360. of all the people i know, the only people that only have a wii (and there are alot of them) would not play these games. they are satisfied with wii sports, Guitar Hero 3, and Galaxy. So ya, target market is another thing, oh and that thing about the average gamer being 29 is wrong, i know the site where he got that stat from, and the method they used for finding average was to average the whole demeographic of wii users, not the most popular age group, this means that when you average a bunch of young kids, (around 10) and older adults (around 50) what do you get? i am not saying no 29 year olds have a wii, i am just saying, of the wii users, people aged in their late twenties or early thirties do not make up the majority of wii users, giving them the backseat in the target marketing.
- ya i KNOW DUDE!!!it makes me so mad, i know the wii isnt a big power house or anything but i know its got some power in it!! i know they could make the games look a lot better!!!
- I completely agree with you. why the hell did developer put game on all system beside wii. wii may not be powerful but it not weak. wii have plenty of power for game like assasin creed, orange box, and call of duty 4. do developer think only extremely good graphic are require for that games. oh yeah jeseth wii have way better graphic than ps2 and ganecube and a little bit better graphic than orinigal xbox. oh yeah touchscreen, that policy was in the nes, snes era. nintendo don't do that anymore.
